프렌즈 시즌2 : 16화 영어 표현 be an item, high and dry

 
영어공부 하시나요? 저도 그렇습니다. 시트콤 <프렌즈>를 10회 시청을 목표로 8회 차 정주행 중입니다. 가장 먼저 무자막, 그다음엔 영어 자막, 그리고 영어 자막과 한국어 자막을 켜고 보다가, 쉐도잉 하면서 어휘와 이디엄을 찾고 있습니다. 처음에는  10회 차까지 반복하게 되면 무척 질릴 것이라고 생각했습니다. 분명 그런 시간이 있었지만, 이제는 정이 들어서 또 봐도 재밌고, 여전히 새롭게 보이는 부분이 있고, 시즌10이 끝나면 아쉽기도 합니다. 작별인사 하면서 울기도 몇 번 울었습니다. 이처럼 <프렌즈>와 코드가 어느 정도 맞고, 꼭 반복해서 봐야겠다는 의지가 충만합니다. 서론은 줄이고, 공부하며 알게 된 어휘나 이디엄을 한 회당 3개 정도 공유합니다. :)

시즌 2: 16화 " 조이의 독립 " 줄거리 ▼
챈들러와 사소한 다툼으로 토라진 조이가 한 번도 혼자 살아본 적이 없다면서 독립을 선언합니다. 그리고 정말 혼자 살게 됩니다. 레이첼과 피비는 타투를 하러 갔는데, 피비가 겁을 먹어버리는 바람에 레이첼 혼자 하트 무늬 타투를 새깁니다. 모니카는 리처드와의 관계를 아버지의 생일 파티에서 이야기합니다. 
 

Now that he has a steady income, Joey thinks he should have his own apartment and moves out, upsetting Chandler. Monica struggles to tell her parents that she is dating Richard. Rachel and Phoebe want to get tattoos. Phoebe chickens out at the last minute, resulting in nothing more than a tiny blue dot, while Rachel gets a heart tattoo embedded on her butt-cheek. Ross changes his mind about tattoos altogether upon seeing Rachel’s tattoo and obviously turned on by it.

Chandler: Well, there you go.

Joey:  Hey, are you cool with this?
괜찮은 거야?
I don't wanna leave you high and dry.
널 속상한 채로 두고 가기는 싫어

Chandler: Hey, I've never been lower or wetter.
이보다 속이 편할 수가 없어

 
high and dry:

1. : being out of reach of the current or tide or out of the water.
2. : being in a helpless or abandoned position.

• All my workers quit and left me high and dry. 
• Paying the bills always leaves me high and dry. 
• It is important that we don't leave them high and dry at the end of the course.

Phoebe: Wanna see mine? Wanna see mine?

Monica: Yes!

Rachel: What? You didn't get one.

Phoebe: Okay. Well then, what is this?

Richard: That blue freckle?

Are we still on that? 계속해서 리처드와 교제하는 의문의 젊은 여성 얘기가 나오자 한마디 보태는 모니카 
She's probably not even very pretty. Just young enough so that everything is still pointing up. 갤러 부인의 지인. 리처드와 교제하는 젊은 여성에 대해 묘사하면서 이런식으로 표현했다
Richard, your son isn't seeing anyone, is he? 주방에서 모니카와 대화하는 리처드에게 다가와 아들이 아무도 만나지 않는 상태인지 묻는 겔러 부인
It seems your daughter and Richard are something of an item. 모니카의 아버지를 부르더니 당신 딸과 리처드가 교제하는 것 같다고 말하는 갤러부인
