프렌즈 시즌5: 4화 영어 표현 be out of one's hair, take a rain check

영어공부 하시나요? 저도 그렇습니다. 시트콤 <프렌즈>를 10회 시청을 목표로 8회 차 정주행 중입니다. 가장 먼저 무자막, 그다음엔 영어 자막, 그리고 영어 자막과 한국어 자막을 켜고 보다가, 쉐도잉 하면서 어휘와 이디엄을 찾고 있습니다. 구동사도 추가했지요. 처음에는 10회 차까지 반복하게 되면 무척 질릴 것이라고 생각했습니다. 분명 그런 시간이 있었지만, 이제는 정이 들어서 또 봐도 재밌고, 여전히 새롭게 보이는 부분이 있고, 시즌10이 끝나면 아쉽기도 합니다. 작별인사 하면서 울기도 몇 번 울었습니다. 이처럼 <프렌즈>와 코드가 어느 정도 맞고, 꼭 반복해서 봐야겠다는 의지가 충만합니다. 서론은 줄이고, 공부하며 알게 된 어휘나 이디엄을 한 회당 3개 정도 공유합니다. :)

시즌 5: 4화 "조이, PBS에 진출하다" 줄거리 ▼

조이는 PBS 모금 행사에 출연하게 되는데, 이를 두고 완전히 선한 행동인지 아닌지에 대해 피비와 설전을 벌입니다. 피비는 완전히 선한 일이 있다고 하며, 조이는 선한 일이 어느정도 이기적인 일이라는 입장이었습니다. 모니카는 자신의 시크릿 남자친구 - 그게 챈들러인지는 두 사람만 아는 - 에 대해 최고의 잠자리 상대였다며 얘기하고, 이 얘기를 들은 챈들러는  매우 자랑스러워 합니다. 그리고 계속 깐죽대는 통에 모니카는 이를 못마땅해 합니다. 한편, 로스와 결혼했지만 얼굴 한번 볼 수 없는 에밀리는 뉴욕에 들어오는 조건으로 로스가 레이첼과 다시는 한 공간에 있지 않기로 내걸었는데요. 이를 두고 어찌할지 몰라 절절매던 로스는 매직 에잇 볼에게 물어보지만 돌아오는 답변은 황당합니다. "Ask again later."

 

Chandler starts behaving rather arrogantly after learning Monica thinks he is the best sex she has ever had. Phoebe does her best to find a selfless good deed. Ross finally contacts Emily to try and work things out. She agrees to come to New York, but only if Ross agrees never to see Rachel. Joey lands a job on a PBS telethon, much to Phoebe's disapproval, who believes there is no such thing as a selfless good deed.

Joey: 200 dollars?
You sure, Pheebs?
I mean, after what Sesame Street 
did to you?

Phoebe: Oh, I'm still mad at them,
but I also know that they bring happiness
to lots of kids whose moms
didn't kill themselves.

You know, so by supporting them,
I'm doing a good thing,
but I'm not happy about it.

So there! A selfless good deed.
