프렌즈 시즌10: 9화 영어 표현 get hopes up, on top of something

영어공부 하시나요? 저도 그렇습니다. 시트콤 <프렌즈>를 10회 시청을 목표로 10회 차 정주행 중입니다. 가장 먼저 무자막, 그다음엔 영어 자막, 그리고 영어 자막과 한국어 자막을 켜고 보다가, 쉐도잉 하면서 어휘와 이디엄을 찾고 있습니다. 구동사도 추가했지요. 처음에는 10회 차까지 반복하게 되면 무척 질릴 것이라고 생각했습니다. 분명 그런 시간이 있었지만, 이제는 정이 들어서 또 봐도 재밌고, 여전히 새롭게 보이는 부분이 있고, 시즌10이 끝나면 아쉽기도 합니다. 작별인사 하면서 울기도 몇 번 울었습니다. 이처럼 <프렌즈>와 코드가 어느 정도 맞고, 꼭 반복해서 봐야겠다는 의지가 충만합니다. 서론은 줄이고, 공부하며 알게 된 어휘나 이디엄을 한 회당 3개 정도 공유합니다. :)

시즌 10: 9화 "의사 챈들러, 목사 모니카" 줄거리 ▼

아이 입양을 위해 미혼모 에리카를 만나러 간 몬들러 커플. 에리카는 몬들러 커플이 목사와 의사라는 직업을 가진 커플로 착각하여 그들을 선택했고, 이에 몬들러 커플에게 기회가 온 것이었습니다. 모니카는 아이가 너무 갖고 싶어 끝까지 목사 연기를 하지만 챈들러는 더이상 에리카를 속일 수 없다며 자신들은 그게 아님을 알려주고 에리카는 속았다는 생각에 화가 나 입양을 없던 일로 하려고합니다.

Monica and Chandler fly to Ohio to meet the birth mother, Erica (Anna Faris), of their prospective child. It becomes clear very quickly their files have been mixed up since Erica thinks Chandler is a doctor and Monica is a minister. They go along with the lie but Chandler feels guilty. He soon convinces Monica to come clean which causes Erica to reject them. Chandler catches up to Erica and convinces her to still consider them. He tells her about their jobs and how much Monica wants this child and he feels horrible that he cannot give his wife this one thing. Erica decides they are the right couple and decides they can adopt her baby. Meanwhile, Joey is set up with one of Phoebe's friends (Annie Parisse) but has problems on the date when she keeps eating off of his plate. Rachel and Phoebe take Ross shopping for clothes but Rachel and Ross' bags get switched. Ross doesn't realize he's wearing a woman's sweater and is incredibly comfortable in it, only to go on a date with a woman which comes to a very quick end when she wears the same garment.

   *on top of: ~외에/ ~뿐 아니라. On top of is also used to mean in addition to, esp. something unpleasant:

You're just jealous because you couldn't pull this off. (여자 옷을 입고서 조이에게 이 옷을 소화시키지 못하니까 질투하는 거라며 단단히 오해하는 로스)
   *pull something off: to succeed in doing something difficult or unexpected
   *It's an ambitious plan, so let's see if we can really pull it off.
