시트콤 <프렌즈>로 영어공부 하신다고요? 저도 그렇습니다. 10회 시청을 목표로 7회 차 정주행 중입니다. 처음엔 무자막, 그다음엔 영어 자막, 그리고 영어 자막과 한국어 자막을 켜고 보다가, 쉐도잉 하고, 어휘와 이디엄을 찾고 있습니다.
이렇게 봐도 봐도 재밌고, 새롭게 보이는 부분도 있고, 아직도 배우는 부분이 있다는 게 놀랍기도 한데요. 그만큼 <프렌즈>와 코드가 어느 정도 맞고, 꼭 반복해서 봐야겠다는 의지가 충만합니다. 서론은 줄이고, 공부하며 알게 된 어휘나 이디엄을 한 회당 3개 정도 공유합니다. ^^
시즌 8: 10화 "모니카의 부츠" 줄거리 ▼
모니카는 집세보다 비싼 부츠를 사서 여기저기 자랑하며 다닙니다. 그러나 이게 웬일! 발이 너무 아픕니다. 몇 번 신어서 피가 흥건해진 상태라 환불도 못하고, 챈들러에게 잘 신고 다니겠다고 약속해서 레이첼에게 줄 수도 없는 상황! 운동화를 갖고 다니며 챈들러 앞에서만 부츠로 갈아 신게 됩니다. 설상가상으로 회사의 디너파티에 부츠를 신고 참여하자는 챈들러. 하는 수 없이 아픈 발로 참여했다가 귀가 길에 솔직하게 털어놓습니다. 결국 챈들러가 그를 업어주게 되고 부츠는 어디에 두고 왔는지 행방불명이 됩니다.
한편 조이의 동생 디나는 레이첼에게 패션에 대해 알고 싶다고 방문합니다. 자신이 성공한 여성이 됐음을 알게 된 레이첼은 기쁜 마음에 그녀를 맞아주는데, 정자 그녀는 패션에 대해 관심이 있는 게 아니라 임신에 대해 도움을 구합니다. 당황했지만 잘 도와준 레이첼. 조이가 좋아하는 샌드위치를 사서 함께 조이와 이야기를 나눕니다. 조이는 집에서 제일 똘똘했던 그녀의 임신 소식에 화가 나고 당황해서 디나의 얼굴을 보지 못하겠다면서 그녀의 남자를 데려옵니다. 그렇게 4자 대면을 하게 된 상황에서 과연 어떻게 이야기가 전개될까요.^^
Chandler disapproves when Monica buys expensive boots but she promises to wear them all the time. She is then afraid to tell him how much they hurt her feet. Joey's youngest sister, Deena (Marla Sokoloff) seeks Rachel's advice after becoming pregnant. When Phoebe learns that Sting's son is in Ben's class, she pretends to be Ben's mother to meet Sting's wife (real wife, Trudie Styler) and get tickets to Sting's concert.
Scene 1
Monica: I can't. I spent so much money on them,
and I told Chandler that I'd wear them all the time.
I can't just give them away.
Phoebe: Well then get your money back,
and return them.
Monica: I can't do that either.
The soles are already little scuffed up,
and the insides are filled with my blood.
Scuff:
- to make a mark on a smooth surface, esp. on a shoe or floor:
- Always wear sneakers in the gym to avoid scuffing the floor.
- Their shoes were scuffed and run down at the heel.
Scene 2
Phoebe: Now, how will l get in touch with them?
Ben's teacher: Their number's on the contact sheet.
Phoebe: (uh huh, uh huh)
Could I get a copy of that?
'Cause Carol threw it out. She lost ours.
She's such a scatterbrain.
But, man, what a hot piece of ass.
Scatterbrain:
- a person who forgets things easily or does not think seriously about things:
- I'm such a scatterbrain - I'm always leaving my bag behind.
- You're a scatterbrain, but I still love you.
Scene 3
Monica: I can't walk, okay? Okay?
These boots were a huge mistake.
Candler: What?
Monica: Okay, you were right.
Alright? I never should've bought them.
They're killing me, one toe at a time.
Chandler: So I was right.
This is what it feels like to be right.
It's oddly unsettling.
unsettling:
- making you feel anxious and worried:
- I received the unsettling news that I may lose my job next month.
- It is unsettling until I find a job.
She had a point. (세일즈맨이 모니카를 보면서 부츠가 너무 비쌀 거라고 얘기했다고 모니카가 빈정대니까 챈들러의 대답)
Have her come by the office. (성공한 패션인에 관심이 있는 조이의 여동생을 데려오라는 레이첼)
How are we going to get home? Maybe a piggyback ride? (부츠가 너무 발아파서 챈들러에게 업어달라는 모니카)
Okay, I would be willing to go to the concert all the while thinking about the children of course. (혼자 헛물켜면서 스팅의 콘서트 티켓을 갖으려는 피비)
*all the while: for all of a period of time.
*She stayed at home all the while.
Joey, just because they're not getting married doesn't mean that this is going to be a disaster.
Maybe they have a plan. (조이의 동생 디나를 결혼시키려는 조이를 제지하는 레이첼)
