프렌즈 시즌 9 : 13화 bug, high road, huffy, pluck

 

시트콤 <프렌즈>로 영어공부 하신다고요? 저도 그렇습니다. 10회 시청을 목표로 7회 차 정주행 중입니다. 처음엔 무자막, 그다음엔 영어 자막, 그리고 영어 자막과 한국어 자막을 켜고 보다가, 쉐도잉 하고, 어휘와 이디엄을 찾고 있습니다.
이렇게 봐도 봐도 재밌고, 새롭게 보이는 부분도  있고, 아직도 배우는 부분이 있다는 게 놀랍기도 한데요. 그만큼 <프렌즈>와 코드가 어느 정도 맞고, 꼭 반복해서 봐야겠다는 의지가 충만합니다. 서론은 줄이고, 공부하며 알게 된 어휘나 이디엄을 한 회당 3개 정도 공유합니다. ^^

시즌 9: 13화 "모니카의 데뷔 무대" 줄거리 ▼

지난밤에 개빈과 레이첼이 발코니에서 키스하는 장면을 본 로스는 챈들러에게 찾아와 그 사실을 알립니다. 레이첼은 다른 남자를 만나기 시작했으면서 자신에게 한마디도 안 하다니 믿을 수가 없다던 로스는 자신도 여자를 만나겠다며 새 출발을 결심하고 여자들을 만나러 다니지만 번번이 실패하고 맙니다.

사진을 찍으려던 조이는 사진사가 눈썹을 다듬고 오라고 하기에 눈썹을 다듬으러 갑니다. 그러나 눈썹 다듬는 과정이 너무 고통스러웠던 나머지 짝짝이 눈썹인채로 챈들러에게 어떻게 좀 해달라며 초록색 마커를 들고 갑니다. 다행히 챈들러가 눈썹을 다듬던 경험이 있던 터라 말끔하게 다듬어지죠. 피비는 모니카에게 마이크가 연주하는 바에 와 힘이 되어달라고 부탁합니다. 노래를 부르지 않아도 되고 와서 술을 마시면 된다는 대답을 얻고 방문한 모니카는 결국 노래를 한 곡 부르게 되는데요. '델타 돈'입니다. 객석의 뜨거운 반응에 힘입어 다른 노래도 부르며 무대를 즐깁니다. 알고 보니, 그녀가 브래지어를 착용하지 않은 날이어서 옷 사이로 다 비치던 거였죠. 

한편, 전날 밤에 개빈과 키스한 레이첼은 어떻게 해야 할 줄을 모르겠다며 모니카와 피비에게 털어놓습니다. 솔직하게 얘기하라는 모니카에 조언을 듣고 레이첼은 그저 직장에 병가를 냅니다. 개빈의 레이첼의 집에 찾아오고, (레이첼을 아무 사이도 아니라며 말하지만 아무 사이도 아닌 게 아닌) 로스와 레이첼의 관계를 알게 된 개빈은 그녀에게 충고를 하나 합니다. 로스에게 솔직하게 털어놓으라는 얘기였죠. 실패에 실패를 거듭하던 로스의 앞에 갓 헤어진 새로운 여성이 커피하우스에 등장하고 약간 정신이 이상한 그녀를 집에 데려온 로스는 레이첼과 말다툼을 하게 됩니다.

Phoebe urges Monica to sing at Mike's piano bar. The audience loves her but only because the spotlight reveals her breasts as she is not wearing a bra under her see-through blouse. Meanwhile, an angry, paranoid Ross is thinking Rachel is moving on 'without the courtesy of telling', then tries finding a date, eventually bringing home a crazy girl who just broke up with her ex-boyfriend. Rachel, wanting to talk with Ross, realizes their arrangement is not working and moves back in with Joey, taking Emma with her.

Gavin: Man, I really bug you. Don't I?

Rachel: Oh, no. Please, I don't care about
you enough to bug me.

Chandler: Sure. Just give me a second
to get all huffy and weird like you.
(목을 가다듬고)
Do you believe that who ever
did something over here last night
did what they did or didn't do?
I mean come on!

Ross: Okay, you really don't know
what I'm talking about?

anyone what I am about to tell you.

Joey: What? What?

Chandler: Okay,
You know how most kids get their allowance from
mowing the lawn or taking out the garbage?
Well, I earned mine by
plucking the eyebrows of my father and
his "business partners."

Joey: (웃으면서)Oh, my god.

회차 감상 소감 ▼

개빈은 친해지고나니 자상하고 다정한 인물이 됩니다. 병가낸 레이첼에게 찾아와 상태를 살피고 솔직하게 충고하는 자상함에서 저까지 반할 뻔 했습니다. 레이첼과 로스는 끝까지 아웅다웅합니다. 주변에서도 답답해 하지만 그들도 자신들의 관계에 대해 답답해하죠. 인간적이라고 생각합니다. 아래 장면이 두 사람의 관계를 잘 보여줍니다. 레이첼의 대사입니다. 

 

Oh, God, Ross, this is just so messed up. 정말 미치겠네 너무 엉망진창이야

What is wrong with us? 우린 대체 왜 이러지?

You know when people hear about our situation, they always ask. 우리 얘기를 들으면 다들 이렇게 물어봐

What, "You live together, but you're not a couple." '같이 사는데 부부는 아니고'

"And you have a baby? Isn't that weird?" '아기는 같이 낳았다니 이상하지 않아요?'

And I say, No. You know what? 그럼 나는 괜찮다고 대답해

It's not. Because it works for us. 우리는 잘 지내고 있다고

But you know what? This doesn't work. 하지만 그건 사실이 아니야

In fact, this is the opposite of working. 알고 보면 문제투성이라고

(로스의 맞장구.. Clearly 맞아)

We said that we would live together as long as this makes sense. 지금 이게 말이 되는 한 같이 살기로 했는데

And maybe this, you know, just doesn't make sense anymore. 더는 말이 안 되는 것 같아
