프렌즈 시즌2 :1화 영어 표현 I'm still on no, all of a sudden

 
시트콤 <프렌즈>로 영어공부 하신다고요? 저도 그렇습니다. 10회 시청을 목표로 8회 차 정주행 중입니다. 처음엔 무자막, 그다음엔 영어 자막, 그리고 영어 자막과 한국어 자막을 켜고 보다가, 쉐도잉 하고, 어휘와 이디엄을 찾고 있습니다.
이렇게 봐도 봐도 재밌고, 새롭게 보이는 부분도  있고, 아직도 배우는 부분이 있다는 게 놀랍기도 한데요. 시즌 1부터 시작해서 시즌 10까지 한 바퀴를 다 돌고 나면 그만큼 아쉽기도 합니다. 이처럼 저는 <프렌즈>와 코드가 어느 정도 맞고, 꼭 반복해서 봐야겠다는 의지가 충만합니다. 서론은 줄이고, 공부하며 알게 된 어휘나 이디엄을 한 회당 3개 정도 공유합니다. ^^

시즌 2: 1화 "로스의 여자 친구" 줄거리 ▼
로스가 자신에게 마음이 있다는 것을 알게 된 레이첼은 중국 출장을 간 로스를 공항으로 마중 나갑니다. 반가운 마음으로 한달음에 달려가려고 했지만 로스의 옆에는 웬 여자가 사이좋게 오는 모습을 발견하고, 레이첼은 그대로 줄행랑을 치려고 하지만 넘어지는 바람에 로스에게 들키고 맙니다. 로스, 레이첼, 줄리까지 세 명이서 어색하게 마주하게 된 상황! 줄리는 뉴욕 출신의 로스 대학원 동기였습니다. 그런 그녀의 존재가 어쩐지 싫었던 레이첼은 친구들과의 만남에서 삐딱하게 굽니다. 재밌는 에피소드를 먼저 얘기하던가 하는 식으로 말입니다.
줄리와 로스의 연애에 기가질린 레이첼은 혼란스러운 마음에 차버린 전 남자 친구 파울로를 만납니다. 모니카는 남자 친구들의 머리를 잘라준 피비의 미용 기술이 마음에 들어 커트를 부탁하지만, 피비는 거절합니다. 지속된 부탁 끝에 피비가 모니카의 머리를 손질해 주는데, 여배우와 남배우를 착각한 피비가 남자 커트로 모니카의 머리를 손질해 줍니다. 모니카는 충격에 한동안 방에서 나오지도 못할 정도였습니다. 조이가 추천해 준 재단사에게 양복을 맞추러 간 챈들러는 성추행을 당하고, 조이는 그동안 성추행인지도 모른 채 양복을 맞추고 있었다는 게 밝혀졌습니다. 레이첼은 로스에게 말할 것이 있다며 이야기를 꺼내는데, 파울로와 사귀는 것은 아니라고 해명합니다. 로스는 레이첼에게 더 좋은 남자를 만날 자격이 있다고 얘기해 줍니다. 자신이 줄리는 아끼고 사랑해 주는 것과 같은 그런 좋은 남자를 말입니다.
 

At Rachel's birthday celebration, Chandler has accidentally revealed that Ross loves her. Rachel goes to the airport to meet Ross and tell him she cares for him, unaware he is returning with Julie (Lauren Tom), who he reconnected with in China and is now dating. Chandler then feels guilty for advising Ross to get over Rachel. When Phoebe gives Joey and Chandler haircuts, Monica wants one. Phoebe initially refuses, knowing Monica's obsessive perfectionism, but finally relents. She misunderstands Monica's wishes and gives her a haircut like Dudley Moore instead of Demi Moore. Joey takes Chandler to his tailor for a new suit, but while measuring his inseam, the man touches Chandler inappropriately. He tells Joey who naively believes that is the normal procedure. Ross' constant talk about Julie upsets Rachel, who spends the night with her old lover, Paolo.

Joey: Why don't you go see Frankie.
My family's been going to him forever.

alter :

• It doesn’t alter the way I feel. 

 

1. to change the size of clothes so that they fit better:

Joey: Oh, hey, Chandler, when you see Frankie
tell him Joey Tribiani says hello.
프랭키 아저씨한테 조이가 안부 묻더라고 전해 줘

 
palpable:

1. so obvious that it can easily be seen or known, or (of a feeling) so strong that it seems as if it can be touched or physically felt:

• The tension in the room was palpable during the exam.
• The tension in the room was almost palpable.

Scene 3

(레이첼에게 로스의 감정에 대해 설명하는 조이...)

Joey: You gotta tell Ross how you feel.
로스한테 네 마음을 고백해

Rachel: Oh, come on, how can I just tell him?
What about Julie?
냅다 고백하면 어떡해?
줄리는 어쩌고?

Joey: What about her?
그 여자가 뭐?
They've only been going out for two weeks.
그래 봤자 겨우 2주 만난 사이야
Ross has been in love with you for like 10 years.
로스는 무려 10년째 널 짝사랑했다고

Rachel: I don't know. I don't know.
모르겠어

Joey: Look, Rach, Rach.
레이첼, 잘 들어
I've been with my share of women.
나도 여자라면 만날 만큼 만나봤어
In fact, I've been with a lot of people's share of women.
다른 남자들보다 차고 넘칠 만큼 많이 만났지
But the point is...
내 말은
I've never felt about anyone the way Ross felt about you.
로스가 널 좋아하는 만큼 좋아한 여자는 없었어

 
Share of women :

1. 따로 의미는 없고 해서, share의 뜻을 찾아봤습니다
2. (part) a part of something that has been divided between several people:

• I’ve had my share of luck in the past.
• Well, I've had my share of women. 
• The total bill comes to €80, so our share is €20.

회차 감상 소감 ▼

레이첼이 속상한 마음에 파울로와 다시 만난 장면은 충격적이었습니다. 그래도 친구들이 슬퍼서 그런 거라고 다독여주는 모습이 감동적이었고,  20대 까지는 또래와의 관계가 얼마나 중요한지 되새겨 볼 수 있는 회차였습니다. 로스가 줄리와 깨를 볶는 모습은 정말 보기가 힘들었습니다. ㅎㅎ

 
 
 

 

 

But the silver lining, if you want to see it, is that he made this decision all by himself. 중국에서 어떻게 줄리와 로스가 이어지게 된거냐고 내막을 묻는 역할을 맡았던 챈들러는 레이첼에게 이런 대답을 내놓는다
Now all of a sudden, he's Ross. 로스의 마음을 알았지만 줄리와 사귀는 로스에게 아무말도 할 수 없어서 애타는 레이첼

Yeah. People do stupid things when they're upset. 밤새 파울로랑 놀고 아침이 되자 루저라며 스스로를 자책하게 된 레이첼을 위로 하는 챈들러
You're way too good to be with a guy like that. 레이첼에게 파울로 같은 남자랑 어울리기엔 너무 좋은 사람이라며 애정어린 말을 하는 로스
