프렌즈 시즌 2: 10화 영어표현 pay your dues, at least my cup is half full

 

시트콤 <프렌즈>로 영어공부 하신다고요? 저도 그렇습니다. 10회 시청을 목표로 8회 차 정주행 중입니다. 처음엔 무자막, 그다음엔 영어 자막, 그리고 영어 자막과 한국어 자막을 켜고 보다가, 쉐도잉 하고, 어휘와 이디엄을 찾고 있습니다.
이렇게 봐도 봐도 재밌고, 새롭게 보이는 부분도  있고, 아직도 배우는 부분이 있다는 게 놀랍기도 한데요. 시즌 1부터 시작해서 시즌 10까지 한 바퀴를 다 돌고 나면 그만큼 아쉽기도 합니다. 이처럼 저는 <프렌즈>와 코드가 어느 정도 맞고, 꼭 반복해서 봐야겠다는 의지가 충만합니다. 서론은 줄이고, 공부하며 알게 된 어휘나 이디엄을 한 회당 3개 정도 공유합니다. ^^

시즌 2: 10화 "레이첼의 새 남자친구" 줄거리 ▼

유쾌한 보비와 다시 사귀는 모니카! 그는 술을 너무 많이 마신다는 점이 빼고는 완벽한 인물입니다. 모니카는 그에게 술을 줄여볼 것을 권유하고, 그는 정말로 술을 끊기로 노력합니다. 그러나 술을 마시지 않은 유쾌한 보비는 너무 지루해서 모니카를 힘들게 만들고, 결국 모니카가 술을 마시게 됩니다. 그리고 보비는 모니카에게 술을 너무 많이 마시는 것 같다며 헤어지고 친구로 남기로 합니다.레이첼의 새로운 데이트 상대는 러스로서 말투도 답답하고 박사 학위를 가지고 있는 사람입니다. 친구들은 그를 보자마자 레이첼은 러스가 아닌 로스와 사귀는 거라며 레이첼을 일깨우려 하지만 그녀만 모릅니다. 묘하게 닮은 두 사람 사이에서 신경전이 벌어지고, 그 모습을 본 레이첼은 두 사람이 정말 닮았다는 걸 눈치채고 러스와 헤어지게 됩니다. 

Monica gets back together with Fun Bobby, who the other friends realize has a drinking problem. Monica persuades him to quit drinking, only to discover he is no longer fun. Joey lands the role of Dr. Drake Ramoray, a neurosurgeon on Days of Our Lives after refusing to sleep with the casting lady for a smaller role; she then offers him the bigger role of Ramoray, which he does sleep with her for. Rachel dates Russ, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Ross (both roles played by David Schwimmer). After finally realizing Russ is Ross's double, Rachel dumps him. At the end, Russ and Julie (Lauren Tom) meet and fall in love at first sight.

(조이가 다시 연예계에 복귀하게 됐다고 전해주는 챈들러...)

Chandler: Guess who's back in show business.
연예계에 누가 복귀했는지 맞혀 봐

Phoebe: Lorne Greene?
론 그린?

Chandler: No, Pheebs. You know why?
Because he's dead.
아니야, 피비 그 사람은 죽었잖아

Phoebe: Oh, no.
이런, 안 됐네

Chandler: Okay, I guess this is gonna seem
bittersweet now...
갑자기 분위기 다운돼서 
좀 그렇긴 하지만
but Joey, that's who.
바로 조이야!

I don't know what she sees

대체 저 따분한 놈이 뭐가 좋다는 건지 모르겠다
It takes him, what? Like,
말 한마디 하는데...
I don't know, uh...
글쎄, 뭐랄까...
hello, a week to get out a sentence?
한 일주일은 걸리겠다

Chandler: Yeah, it's annoying, isn't it?
그래, 답답해 죽겠지?

 

goober:

Scene 3

(모니카에게 술 문제가 있는 것 같다고 얘기하는 보비)

Bobby: This is really hard for me to say.
이런 말 하기 정말 힘든데
I think you may have a drinking problem.
너 술 문제가 있는 거 같아

Monica: What, these?
뭐 이거?
No, these are for cuts and scrapes.
이건 소독약으로 쓸 거야

Bobby: Look, I am just not strong enough to be
in a codependent relationship right now.
난 지금 서로 의지할 정도로 강한 사람이 못 돼

 

codependent:

1. involved in a relationship in which one person helps to cause another person's alcohol problem, drug addiction, etc. because they have a strong emotional need themselves:
   

• It is never easy to disengage from a codependent relationship.
  
• I think that it really is a codependent relationship. 
• The two industries are increasingly co-dependent. 

 

Well, at least my cup is half full. (지난 몇달간 남자친구와 직업이 없었지만, 이제 유쾌한 바비와 만나면서 자신의 컵이 반은 찼다고 얘기하는 모니카)
Come on, man. You're just paying your dues. 10년이나 연기를 해왔는데 좋지 않은 평가를 받고, 어디에 도달하지도 못한 자신에 대해 자책하는 조이에게  고생끝에 낙이 온다고 다독이는 로스

Hey, I didn't know we were seeing other people. 러스를 만나고서 레이첼에게 다가가 다른 사람을 만나도 되는지 몰랐다는 로스
