클로즈 이너프 시즌1 : 1화 haggler, tuck someone in, emancipated

이번에 보게 된 작품은 애니메이션 <클로즈 이너프>인데요. 30대 부부와 아이의 일상을 담은 콘텐츠로, 실생활에 도움이 되는 표현이 많이 나올 것으로 기대가 됩니다. 갑자기 왜 애니메이션을 보는지 궁금하신 분들도 있을 겁니다. 설명을 덧붙이자면,  올해 10회 차 정주행 하기로 한 시트콤 <프렌즈>를 잠시 멈추고, 리프레시할 겸 가볍게 골랐습니다. 방법은 간단합니다. 가장 먼저 영어 자막, 그리고 한영자막 동시에, 마지막으로 쉐도잉 하면서 어휘와 이디엄을 찾고 있습니다. 애니메니션의 장점은 재밌고, 짧다는 것인데요. 시청해보니 꽤나 표현이 쏠쏠합니다. 서론은 줄이고, 공부하며 알게 된 어휘나 이디엄을 한 회당 3개 정도 공유합니다. :)

시즌 1: 1화 "퀼트 숙제/완벽한 집 " 줄거리 ▼

캔디스의 퀼트 숙제를 위해 패션 디스트릭트까지 온 조시, 에밀리 부부! 그러나 정작 실을 사는 것은 잊어버리고 빈 손으로 집에 돌아가게 됐습니다. 그때 마침 바느질을 잘하는 거리의 부랑자 아이들을 발견하고 그들과 거래를 합니다. 부모의 역할을 해주면 멋진 퀼트를 만들어주겠다는 조건이었습니다. 그들은 과연 부모의 역할을 했을까요?

한편, 에밀리는 때때로 집안의 시끌벅적함에 압도되어 모델하우스에 가곤합니다. 그곳에서 조용히 자신만의 시간을 보내는 걸 좋아하죠. 그리고 또 한 곳의 모델 하우스를 방문했는데, 그곳에서 벌어지는 일이 마치 시트콤 같습니다. 그녀에게 무슨 일이 있던 걸까요?

 

"Quilty Pleasures": While picking up Candice from school, Josh and Emily learn from her teacher, Mr. Campbell, that she must turn in a family tree quilt project. Forcing Alex and Bridgette to babysit Candice, they travel to the fashion district to collect the materials they need for the quilt, only to end up stuck as the district closes. Josh's wallet is stolen, and he and Emily track the thief to an abandoned factory, where they meet a group of street urchins. Employing their help, Josh and Emily successfully create the quilt and spend the night at the factory. In the morning, Josh and Emily realize that the street urchins are actually dwarfish adults who try to force them to stay and act as their parents, although they escape. Arriving at the school, they discover that Candice has already made her own family quilt, and Mr. Campbell passes her.

you start to fear that you'll look back
on these years and think,
저처럼 일에 미쳐서 살면 언젠가 후회할 테니까요

회차 감상 소감 ▼

절약하기 위해 이혼한 친구 부부와 산다는 설정, 모델 하우스를 보러 다니면서 자신만의 시간을 가지는 에밀리의 모습은 앞으로 벌어질 에피소드를 예상할 수 있게 합니다. 짠내 나는 미국식 개그겠지요. 미국에서는 에밀리를 중산층이라고 하나요? 팬데믹이 지나서 어떻게 부르는 지 모르겠지만 한국에서 절약하면서 사는 제가 보기에는 그녀의 스토리가 충분히 공감이 갑니다.
