프렌즈 시즌3: 17화 영어표현 brace yourself, money in the bank

영어공부 하시나요? 저도 그렇습니다. 시트콤 <프렌즈>를 10회 시청을 목표로 8회 차 정주행 중입니다. 가장 먼저 무자막, 그다음엔 영어 자막, 그리고 영어 자막과 한국어 자막을 켜고 보다가, 쉐도잉 하면서 어휘와 이디엄을 찾고 있습니다. 처음에는  10회 차까지 반복하게 되면 무척 질릴 것이라고 생각했습니다. 분명 그런 시간이 있었지만, 이제는 정이 들어서 또 봐도 재밌고, 여전히 새롭게 보이는 부분이 있고, 시즌10이 끝나면 아쉽기도 합니다. 작별인사 하면서 울기도 몇 번 울었습니다. 이처럼 <프렌즈>와 코드가 어느 정도 맞고, 꼭 반복해서 봐야겠다는 의지가 충만합니다. 서론은 줄이고, 공부하며 알게 된 어휘나 이디엄을 한 회당 3개 정도 공유합니다. :)

시즌 2: 17화 " 로스와 레이첼, 원수되다" 줄거리 ▼

레이첼과 로스는 만나기만 하면 싸우는 지경입니다. 친구들이 곤란해 할 정도로요. 서로 날을 잡아서 놀자는 식으로 친구들은 한 사람씩 시간을 보내게 됩니다. 레이첼과 함께 스키를 타러 간 친구들은 인적이 드문 휴게소에서 차의 가스가 떨어져 발을 구릅니다. 결국엔 로스를 부르게 되고, 캐롤의 집에서 신세한탄을 하던 로스는 캐롤의 꾸중에 결국 길을 나섭니다. 레이첼과 로스는 그 와중에도 싸우고 피비가 한 마디 합니다. 제발 서로 이성적으로 굴 수 없겠느냐고요. 그렇게 두 사람의 싸움은 잠잠해 지고 다시 여행을 떠납니다. 이번에는 로스의 차가 시동이 걸리지 않고요. 

 * 전 캐롤이 로스에게 일침을 가하는 장면이 너무 통쾌했어요. 레이첼과 싸웠다고 엄한 친구들에게까지 화풀이를 하면 안된다고요. 로스랑 레이첼은 이 에피소드에서도 엄청 싸우는데,  싸우고 화해하는데서 관계가 한층 성숙하고 건강해지는 것 같습니다. 싸우면서 서로 떨어져 지내보기도 하고, 그 과정에서 서로가 서로에게 어떤 존재인지 깨닫게 되니까 정말 내가 함께 할 사람인지 알게 되잖아요.

The aftermath of Ross and Rachel's breakup leaves the group in a state of stress, as the other members of it are trying to keep them all intact without alienating the former couple. Rachel understandably does not invite Ross on a weekend ski trip with the rest of the group, but less rationally refuses to contact him even after her car breaks down and they have no other way to get out of the snowy back-country road they are stuck on. Monica contacts Ross covertly to come help them, which he reluctantly agrees to, and Rachel is angry that he was called and insults him when he shows up, leading to Ross in turn getting angry at her and declaring that Monica and Chandler agreed with his "we were on a break!" defense. Things get so bad that Chandler nearly has a breakdown, but Phoebe bluntly tells Ross and Rachel that enough is enough and they have only 2 options: be polite to each other and function in the group, or be this way and see the friends break apart for good. They agree to be civil, and Rachel invites Ross to join them on the trip, leading Ross in turn to politely decline and wish them a good time.

Ross: No. Rachel dosen't want me to...

Carol: Look, I am sorry that Rachel dumped you
because she fell in love with that Mark guy,
and you were the innocent victim in all of this,
but don't punish your friends dor what Rachel did to you.
