영어공부 하시나요? 저도 그렇습니다. 시트콤 <프렌즈>를 10회 시청을 목표로 8회 차 정주행 중입니다. 가장 먼저 무자막, 그다음엔 영어 자막, 그리고 영어 자막과 한국어 자막을 켜고 보다가, 쉐도잉 하면서 어휘와 이디엄을 찾고 있습니다. 구동사도 추가했지요. 처음에는 10회 차까지 반복하게 되면 무척 질릴 것이라고 생각했습니다. 분명 그런 시간이 있었지만, 이제는 정이 들어서 또 봐도 재밌고, 여전히 새롭게 보이는 부분이 있고, 시즌10이 끝나면 아쉽기도 합니다. 작별인사 하면서 울기도 몇 번 울었습니다. 이처럼 <프렌즈>와 코드가 어느 정도 맞고, 꼭 반복해서 봐야겠다는 의지가 충만합니다. 서론은 줄이고, 공부하며 알게 된 어휘나 이디엄을 한 회당 3개 정도 공유합니다. :)

시즌 5: 22화 "조이의 전성시대" 줄거리 ▼
조이는 영화에 주연을 맡아서 신나하고 챈들러와 함께 로드 트립을 갑니다. 독립 영화였고 흥행성을 의심한 챈들러가 그를 화나게 하는 바람에 챈들러는 중간에 하차하고 조이만 영화를 찍으러 가는데요. 영화장에서 황당한 소리를 듣습니다. 자금부족으로 영화를 찍지 않는다는 것이었죠. 피비는 왜인지 로스에게 심각하게 화가 나 있습니다. 무슨 일이 있던 걸까요? 알고보면 굉장히 황당하고 피비다운 이유입니다.
Joey lands a role in an independent movie, then borrows Phoebe's taxicab to drive to the Las Vegas location. Chandler rides along but learns that Joey will not get paid unless the movie is successful. He remarks that he does not think the movie will be Joey's big break. Furious, Joey kicks Chandler out, stranding him on the George Washington Bridge. Chandler later phones Joey and apologizes, though Joey does not tell Chandler that he was right. Production has been cancelled because of low-cost of funds forcing Joey to get a job at Caesars Palace as a gladiator. Meanwhile, Rachel has an eye infection but resists using the prescribed eye drops; Phoebe is angry at Ross and refuses to make up, leaving it to Ross to figure out what he did, only to discover Phoebe dreamed it.

Phoebe: I am so sorry you got caught
in the middle of that.
I didn't mean to be so out there,
but I am furious with him.
Chandler: Wow, um...
Calm down?
Phoebe: I'm trying, but, man,
that guy can push my buttons.
Monica: Why are you so mad at him?
furious :

- She smiled, but privately she was furious.
- He's furious about/at the way he's been treated.
- I was expecting him to be furious but he was very restrained.

Chandler: No.
(스스로도 놀란다)
Joey: I don't believe this.
Chandler: Look, Joe. I just don't want you
to get yourhopes up too high. You know?
Joey: What are you talking about?
I'm the lead in a movie.
get one's hopes up:
- :to feel hopeful
- You shouldn't get your hopes up. The weather isn't likely to improve before tomorrow.
- It's bad habit to get one's blood up for nothing.
- Don't get your hopes up!
Well, back to square one. (피비가 북쪽으로 가면 뭐가 좋고 남쪽으로 가면 뭐가 좋다고 하자 다시 원점으로 돌아왔다고 얘기하는 조이)
*back to square one: If you are back to square one, you have to start working on a plan from the beginning because your previous attempt failed completely.
Why don't you pull over? I'll get out right now. (로드 트립 중에 싸우고서 차 세우라고 조이에게 얘기하는 챈들러)

We could make a fortune. (안약을 넣으려고 레이첼의 위에서 버둥대는 모니카와 자신을 챈들러와 조이가 보면 돈 좀 만졌을 거라고 농담하는 레이첼)
