Scene 1
(...)
Eleanor: Or option C...
Continue to lie about myself and find a way to save Michael.
Can we somehow throw Tahani under the bus?
That would be a classic "two birds with one stone" scenario.
throw someone under the bus :
- :to do something harmful to someone else in order to gain an advantage for yourself
- I'm not going to throw my friend under the bus for something he did 25 years ago.
- He has been accused of throwing fellow Republicans under the bus for his personal agenda.
Scene 2
(...)
Chidi: I won't say anything because I promised to help you.
And the moral implications...
Of everything that we've done are so complicated
that I may never untangle them, but I hate lying.
I always have,
and this is going to eat me up inside forever.
You might be able to shrug this off,
and forget about it, but I never will.
shrug something off:
- : to treat something as if it is not important or not a problem
- You're a father and you can't simply shrug off your responsibility for your children.
- The company shrugged aside its defeat last week in the takeover battle for the software provider.
