시트콤 <프렌즈>로 영어공부 하시는 분 많이 계실겁니다. 저도 벌써 7회차 정주행하고요.
그동안 귀로 듣고, 입으로 말했다면, 이제는 어휘나 문법을 찾아보려고 합니다.
이번 포스팅은 프렌즈 시즌3 :22화 에서 '알아두면 좋을 표현'입니다.
어휘의 경우, 케임브리지 영영사전을 이용하였습니다. ^^
시즌 3: 22화 "소리 지르는 남자" 줄거리 ▼
레이첼은 토미라는 남자와 데이트를 하는데, 알고보면 그는 엄청난 성격파탄자입니다. 우연히 로스는 그의 그런 성격을 보게 되고 친구들에게 경고하지만 레이첼과 사귀는 남자를 탐탁치 않아 하는 로스의 반응에 대해 친구들은 무시합니다. 그러던 중 토미가 작고 귀여운 병아리를 손에 올려놓고 귀여워 하다가 병아리가 토미의 손에 실수를 하는 바람에 화를 버럭 냅니다. 그 모습을 보게 된 친구들은 비로소 토미의 성격에 대해 알게 되고, 레이첼과 그는 헤어집니다.
Rachel dates Tommy (Ben Stiller), an aggressive bully who terrorizes anyone crossing him. When only Ross observes his bad behavior, everyone else claims he is just jealous over Rachel, but Tommy eventually cannot hide his true self and the group finally sees Tommy's true character when he screams at the chick and the duck. Joey and Kate part when she gets an acting job in Los Angeles. Using Monica's phone, Phoebe is on hold for days waiting to speak to a company before her warranty expires, unaware it is not a toll-free "800" number.
Rachel: Oh, Phoebe, are you still on hold?
I was supposed to call my dad back,
like, two hours ago.
Phoebe: Oh, yeah. He clicked on.
He said call him as soon as
you get a chance. He's at Flimby's.
Rachel: What's Flimby's?
Phoebe: Oh, yeah, that's the word I use
when I can't remember the real thing.
Rachel: Okay, hang up. That's it. Come on.
Phoebe: No. Rachel, that's what they want me to do.
My warranty expires tomorrow.
If I don't get through
they're not gonna fix my crappy,
broken phone for free.
We cannot let them win.
It's us versus them.
Crappy :
- unpleasant or of very bad quality :
- He had a series of crappy jobs.
- That crappy bag with the ragged handle.
- Let's go see a crappy movie.
Cailin: Hi. Remember me?
Ross: Hi. Yeah.
Tommy's in line for the bathroom,
and someone just cut in front of him.
I think he's gonna snap.
Snap:
- to cause something that is thin to break suddenly and quickly with a cracking sound:
- You'll snap that ruler if you bend it too far.
- Some vandal's snapped off my car aerial again.
- to suddenly become unable to control a strong feeling, especially anger:
- When she asked me to postpone my trip to help her move to her new house, I just snapped (= got angry).
Tommy: Hey.
Hey there, little fella.
Mr. Fuzzy-Man, how you doing?
(토미의 손에 무언가를 싼 털복숭이 병아리)
Gross.
Idiot!
Stupid, little, fuzzy, yellow creature!
"Oh, look at me. I'm so cute.
I'm a little chick who's disgusting!"
God, you're so stupid!
How are you not yet extinct?
Fuzzy:
- (of hair) in an untidy mass of tight curls:
- Oh no, it's raining - my hair will get all fuzzy.
- I peel peaches because I don’t like their fuzzy skins.
Excuse me. I’m sorry. I think you may be in our seats. 극장에서 일행의 자리에 앉아있는 노부부를 보며 로스가 정중하게 얘기한다
I've kept myself busy. 계속 고객센터와 연결되길 기다리느라 지루했겠다는 모니카의 얘기에 스스로 바빴다고 대답하는 피비
Absolutely. You're talented and you're good-looking. 신문사에서 자신을 질투해서 좋지 않게 써준거라고 생각하는 케이트에게 대답하는 조이
Ross, would you just stop it? It's getting really old. 토미 근처에서 그의 화를 돋우는 행동을 해서 그가 화가 많다는 것을 보여주려고 노력하는 로스의 모습이 지겨운 레이첼
