프렌즈 시즌5 : 17화 영어 표현 all over each other

시트콤 <프렌즈>로 영어공부 하신다고요? 저도 그렇습니다. 10회 시청을 목표로 7회차 정주행 중인데요. 처음엔 무자막, 그 다음엔 영어 자막, 그리고 영어 자막과 한국어 자막을 켜고 보다가, 쉐도잉하고, 어휘와 이디엄을 찾고 있어요.

이렇게 봐도 봐도 재밌고, 새롭게 보이는 부분도  있고, 아직도 배우는 부분이 있다는 게 놀랍기도 한데요. 그만큼 <프렌즈>와 코드가 어느 정도 맞고, 꼭 반복해서 봐야겠다는 의지가 충만해요. 서론은 줄이고, 공부하며 알게 된 어휘나 이디엄을 공유할게요. ^^

시즌 5: 17화 "잘못된 키스" 줄거리 ▼

조이가 로스의 거주지에서 핫 걸을 찾아다니고, 층수 계산을 잘 못해서 자꾸만 로스의 집에 다다릅니다. 포기하려던 조이는 모니카의 도움 덕분에 핫 걸이 사는 정확한 장소를 찾지만 이미 로스와 데이트 약속이 있던 그녀의 집에서 로스가 문을 열어주는 바람에 로스만 마주치게 됩니다. 

모니카는 피비와 개리의 불붙는 관계를 보며 경쟁심을 느낍니다. 챈들러에게 자신들이 더 핫하다는 걸 증명해야 된다며 자꾸만 보챕니다. 한편 레이첼은 랄프 로렌에 인터뷰를 하러 가서 면접관에게 키스를 합니다. 문을 열어주려는 그의 행동에 자신도 모르게 키스가 나온 것입니다. 뒤늦게 깨닫고서 후회하지만 다행히 2차 면접이 잡혔고, 입술에 잉크가 묻은 채로 면접을 봤다가, 면접관이 입술을 가르키는 게 꼭 키스해 달라는 것 같아서 인터뷰를 안 하겠다며 소리를 치고 나옵니다. 그리고 자신의 입술에 잉크가 묻어있었단 사실을 알게 됩니다..^^

Rachel interviews with Ralph Lauren and accidentally kisses her interviewer and prospective boss – Mr. Zelner. Monica wants to prove that she and Chandler are a hotter couple than Phoebe and her new boyfriend, Gary. Joey flirts with a girl who lives across the street in Ross' building. When he goes to meet her, he cannot find her apartment and continually ends up at Ross' door, having miscalculated the floor number. Eventually Monica helps him find the apartment only to find Ross in the girls apartment (with whom the girl met Ross earlier and goes out with him).

Scene 1

Ross: I don't think we've met. I'm Ross.

Jen: I know. You're the guy who
wouldn't chip in for the handyman.

Ross: Never mind.

Jen: No, I actually thought it was unfair
the way everyone reacted.
I mean, you had just moved in.

 

Chip (something) in : 

1. to give some money when several people are giving money to pay for something together:

• They all chipped in £100 and bought their mother a trip to Greece.
• They each chipped in $50 to take their parents out to dinner.

Rachel: Now, you're probably going to hire
one of the people who...
who did not
yell at you and storm out.
And I think that's a big mistake.
And here's why.

I made a huge fool of myself,
and I came back.
That shows courage.
When I thought you wanted sex
in exchange for this job, I said no.
That shows integrity.
And I was not afriad
to stand up for myself
and that shows courage.

Okay, Now, I know
that I've already said courage
but you've got to have courage.

And finally
when I thought you were making
sexual advances in the workplace
I said no, and I was not litigious.

So there you go. You got courage
You got integrity, you got courage again
 and not litigious.

1. too often taking arguments to a court of law for a decision, Hugging or hanging out with eachother constantly.
   especially to win money in a lawsuit:

• The US is the most litigious society in the world.
• Teachers were warned to avoid conflict with the parents, who were known to be litigious.

 

I am serious. We're all over each other all the time. (게리와 교제 초반인 피비는 모니카에게 챈들러와 언제  불씨가 꺼졌냐며 묻고, 모니카는 여전히 불이 붙어있으며 둘이 좋아죽는다며 질색팔색한다)
