프렌즈 시즌 7 :1 화 chime in, steal someone's thunder

 시트콤 <프렌즈>로 영어공부 하신다고요? 저도 그렇습니다. 10회 시청을 목표로 7회 차 정주행 중입니다. 처음엔 무자막, 그다음엔 영어 자막, 그리고 영어 자막과 한국어 자막을 켜고 보다가, 쉐도잉 하고, 어휘와 이디엄을 찾고 있습니다.
이렇게 봐도 봐도 재밌고, 새롭게 보이는 부분도  있고, 아직도 배우는 부분이 있다는 게 놀랍기도 한데요. 그만큼 <프렌즈>와 코드가 어느 정도 맞고, 꼭 반복해서 봐야겠다는 의지가 충만합니다. 서론은 줄이고, 공부하며 알게 된 어휘나 이디엄을 공유합니다. ^^

시즌 7: 1화 "모니카는 주목받고 싶어서" 줄거리 ▼
챈들러와 약혼한 모니카는 친구들에게 근사하게 차려입고 플라자로 가서 와인을 마시자고 제안합니다. 각자 그렇게  '모니카의 밤'을 준비합니다. 피비는 결혼식 연주를 해준다며 기타를 손에 놓을 생각을 안하고, 레이첼은 왠지 모르게 울적해 하더니 복도에서 마주친 로스에게 보너스 나이트를 제안합니다. 복도에서 키스하던 두 사람의 모습을 발견한 모니카는 자신의 Thunder를 훔쳐갔다며 화를 내고, 결국은 친구들 모두가 레이첼과 로스의 키스에 대해 알게되어, 관심을 뺏겨 실망한 모니카는 약속을 취소합니다.

조이는 19살 역할로 오디션이 있다면서 챈들러의 옷을 이것저것 겹쳐입고 이 모습을 본 챈들러는 식겁합니다. 모든 게 엉망이 된 상황에서 레이첼과 모니카는 말다툼을 하고, 그 끝에 서로의 진심을 알게됩니다. 레이첼은 복도에서 자신이 로스와 키스를 한 이유가 울적했기 때문이며, 챈들러와 모니카의 결혼이 무척이나 행복하지만 그들의 모습을 보면서 결혼 근처에도 못 간 자신의 모습에 슬프다는 이야기를 합니다. 이 얘기를 들은 모니카는 로스와 거의 자게 해서 미안하다며 레이첼에게 사과합니다...^^

The gang prepare to celebrate the engagement of Monica and Chandler. However, plans are upended when Monica walks in on Ross and Rachel kissing in the hallway, and she accuses them of stealing her thunder; Ross and Rachel had been planning a "bonus night", where two exes have a one-night stand. Meanwhile, Chandler has bedroom-related problems, Joey intends to audition for the role of a 19-year-old, and Phoebe wants to play her guitar at Monica’s and Chandler’s wedding.

Scene 1

Phoebe: So have you decided on a band for the wedding?
Because, you know, I'm kinda musical.

Rachel: Yeah, Pheebes, honeym
she just engaged a couple of hours ago,
I doubt she's even had time to think...

Phoebe: Well, speaking of chiming in, remember
the time you burned down my apartment?

 

Chime in :

Rachel: Monica, why, why
would I ever want to take away from your night?

Monica: I don't know, maybe
you feeling a little resentful.
Maybe you thought you'd get married first.
Maybe you can't stand the fact that
your formerly fat friend is getting married before you.

 
Resentful:

1. feeling angry because you have been forced to accept someone or something that you do not like:

• She was resentful of anybody's attempts to interfere in her work.
• Nurses are often resentful of this additional and unpaid demand on their time.

Scene 3

Monica: Why aren't you dressed yet?
Phoebe: I'm sorry, but I just wrote
the best dance song for your wedding.

(피비가 연주하려 하자 모니카가 기타를 뺏는다)

Monica: No, Phoebe, I'll tell you what.
If you get ready now
I'll let you play it at the wedding.

Phoebe: Really? 
Oh, that's so exciting.
Thank you, thanks Mon.
Oh, but Mon, if you touch my guitar again
I'm gonna have to pound on you a little bit.

 

Pound:

1. (hit) to hit repeatedly with force, or to crush by hitting repeatedly:

Fair enough. Now go get ready! (옷 안 갈아입고 기타만 치는 피비의 기타를 뺏고 결혼식에 연주할 수 있게 해준다고 하자 피비가 좋아하면서 한번만 기타 더 건드리면 패준다고하자 응답하는 모니카) 좋아, 괜찮아
You kind of stole my thunder. (복도에서 키스하던 레이첼과 로스의 모습을 발견하고 기가 차서 레이첼에게 얘기하는 모니카)
*steal somone's thunder: to do what someone else was going to do before they do it,
especially if this takes success or praise away from them.      
Thunder being stolen! (엉겹결에 피비까지 로스와 레이첼의 키스를 알게 되자 속상해하는 모니카)
I'm calling it off. (오늘밤 만나는 것은 좋은 아이디어가 아닌것 같다며 취소하겠다고 레이첼에게 얘기하는 로스)
