시트콤 <프렌즈>로 영어공부 하신다고요? 저도 그렇습니다. 10회 시청을 목표로 7회 차 정주행 중입니다. 처음엔 무자막, 그다음엔 영어 자막, 그리고 영어 자막과 한국어 자막을 켜고 보다가, 쉐도잉 하고, 어휘와 이디엄을 찾고 있습니다.
이렇게 봐도 봐도 재밌고, 새롭게 보이는 부분도 있고, 아직도 배우는 부분이 있다는 게 놀랍기도 한데요. 그만큼 <프렌즈>와 코드가 어느 정도 맞고, 꼭 반복해서 봐야겠다는 의지가 충만합니다. 서론은 줄이고, 공부하며 알게 된 어휘나 이디엄을 한 회당 3개 정도 공유합니다. ^^
시즌 8: 3화 "3% 부족할 때" 줄거리 ▼
챈들러와 모니카는 신혼 여행을 떠납니다. 그리고 그들의 집에 들어가고 싶지만 열쇠가 없는 조이와 피비는 집에 가스가 샌다며 트리거씨에게 거짓 정보를 흘리고, 열쇠가 없던 트리거씨는 급한 마음에 사람을 불러 문을 부수고 집에 들어갑니다.
레이첼은 드디어 로스에게 임신 사실을 말하고, 로스는 순간 굳어버리고 맙니다. 머지않아 콘돔을 썼는데 어떻게 그런 일이 벌어진 건지 의아해하죠. 알고 보니 콘돔 상자에 피임 확률이 작게 표시가 되어있었고, 이를 본 로스는 격분해 고객센터에 전화를 합니다.
...같이 초음파 확인하는 장면 정말 뭉클합니다.
Chandler and Monica are about to leave for their honeymoon as Rachel prepares to tell Ross they are having a baby. Phoebe and Joey try to get into Monica and Chandler's apartment by telling Mr. Treeger there is a gas leak. However, Treeger, who could not find the spare key, instead calls firefighters who break down the door.
Scene 1
Monica: Oh no, you see
we're on our honeymoon.
So um, can you do your little thing
and bumps us up to first class?
Airport staff: I'm sorry, all the first class seats are taken.
That couple got the last two.
Bump something up:
- to increase the amount or size of something:
- The distributors will probably bump up the price of the software when the next version is released.
- I was bumped up to first class.
Scene 2
Rachel: Litsten, you know what? I was really
freaked out too, when I found out..
Ross: Freaked out, hey,
I'm not freaked out!
I'm indignant as a consumer!
Rachel: You know what? Let's talk later.
Ross: No. I want to talk now.
Indignant:
- angry because of something that is wrong or not fair:
- She wrote an indignant letter to the paper complaining about the mayor’s actions.
- They were indignant that they hadn’t been invited.
All in good time, my love. All in good time. (조이가 모니카와 챈들러는 결혼하고 로스와 레이첼은 임신했으니 둘이서 뭐라도 하자고 얘기하니 피비의 대답)

I'm in love, too. But in an orderly fashion. (줄 앞의 커플이 허니문이라고 애정행각을 벌이며 안가자 궁시렁대는 모니카)
