프렌즈 시즌8 :18화 영어 표현 a pat on the back, call a spade a spade, put a spin on

 

시트콤 <프렌즈>로 영어공부 하신다고요? 저도 그렇습니다. 10회 시청을 목표로 7회 차 정주행 중입니다. 처음엔 무자막, 그다음엔 영어 자막, 그리고 영어 자막과 한국어 자막을 켜고 보다가, 쉐도잉 하고, 어휘와 이디엄을 찾고 있습니다.
이렇게 봐도 봐도 재밌고, 새롭게 보이는 부분도  있고, 아직도 배우는 부분이 있다는 게 놀랍기도 한데요. 그만큼 <프렌즈>와 코드가 어느 정도 맞고, 꼭 반복해서 봐야겠다는 의지가 충만합니다. 서론은 줄이고, 공부하며 알게 된 어휘나 이디엄을 한 회당 3개 정도 공유합니다. ^^

시즌 8: 18화 "당신의 열정에 건배" 줄거리 ▼

피비는 모니카와 갔던 세탁소에서 파커를 만납니다. 파커는 매사에 열정이 넘치고 때로는 지나칠 정도로 감사하는 태도를 가진 사람입니다. 두 사람은 갤러 부부의 35주년 결혼기념식에 함께 참여하게 되는데, 친구들은 파커의 열정 넘치는 모습을 웃음거리로 삼아 흉내를 내고, 이를 본 피비는 화를 냅니다. 하지만 머지않아 피비도 그의 지나친 열정에 지쳐버리고 맙니다. 한편, 레이첼과 로스는  부모님의 설정에 따라 결혼한 부부 행세를 하면서 축의금을 받고 결혼 이야기를 지어냅니다. 로스의 프로포즈 이야기도 로맨틱해서 레이첼의 마음을 두드렸고, 두 사람은 이런저런 이야기를 하면서 사람들을 모았습니다. 특히 레이첼이 주먹만 한 반지를 받았다고 표현할 때 정말 웃겼습니다...^^

Monica botches an attempt at giving a heartfelt speech for her parents' 35th anniversary party. Phoebe dates Parker (Alec Baldwin), who is overly-enthusiastic about everything which ultimately annoys the entire group, including herself. Ross and Rachel have to pretend they are married while at the Geller's anniversary party; Ross' "wedding toast" stirs feelings in Rachel.

Ross, Mon: Sure.

Joey: Who's the guy?
Phoebe: Well, his name is Parker
and I met him at the dry cleaners.

Chandler: Did he put a little starch in your bloomers?

Chandler: Who said that?

Phoebe: No, he's really great, though.
He has this incredible zest for life
and he treats me like a queen.
Except at night, when he treats me
like the naughty girl I am.

회차 감상 소감 ▼

파커의 긍정성이 아쉬웠던 점은 '조절'을 할 줄 모른다는 점이었습니다. 굴을 먹지 않으면서 피비에게 먹어보라고 하고, 침묵 게임에 참여해서 일분을 못 참고 바로 자신이 졌다며 젠가하자고 이야기를 꺼내는 식으로 말이죠. 피비가 파커에 대해 하는 말이 있습니다. 자신이 긍정적인 사람이며, 파커는 우울증 약을 먹은 사람같다고요. 

 

 

No, really, any time Ross makes a toast, everyone cries and hugs him and pats him on the back. (로스가 건배사를 할때마다 사람들의 열렬한 반응을 설명하는 모니카)
